The Best 6 Restaurants in Kent

Travelling to a new destination is very exciting, but because there’s so much to do and see, it can be quite difficult to find the right spots, you know, the places only locals could possibly know about. Sometimes, we’re lucky enough to stumble upon a gem but a lot of the time, being a tourist includes a lot of hit and miss.

So, with that in mind, whether you’re travelling to Kent for business or pleasure, it is essential that you enjoy a scrumptious meal from at least one of our carefully chosen best 6 restaurants in Kent. That, and an accompanied apartment to stay in, that’s nearby, just in case you can’t get enough of the place!

Frederic Bistro

This little bistro is truly authentic! The Chef draws inspiration from south-west France, so as you can imagine, it’s all about the wine and dish pairing.

Favouring seasonal produce and local suppliers, this scratch-cook café will have your mouth watering from the scent in the air alone. With cakes and puddings displayed in the window, made by his wife, this place will have you transported in an instant. Serving lunch six days a week and dinner from exclusively from Wednesday onwards, we recommend trying both. For lunch, treat yourself to the Guinea Fowl, that comes served with Violette potatoes, golden & candied beetroot, sprouts, quince & calvados jus. For dinner, try the delicious Lamb Chop Cassoulet with lamb chops, white bean, lardon, sausage & smoked duck stew and then thank us later.

Samphire

Winner of the Taste of Kent Awards’ Best Bistro award in 2017, it’s no wonder that it secured a place on our list. This is an independent, family run bistro in the centre of the quaint Whitstable.

Sourcing all of their ingredients from local farms, allotments, fisherman and various fresh produce suppliers, and boasting a quirky and friendly atmosphere, why not enjoy a lovely breakfast or lunch here? It’s as Kentish as they come, serving Pan-Fried Fishcakes, Mussels, Ham Hock Hash and Canterbury Tarts.

This one’s a classy pick, perfect for a business dinner or a date. Situated in the heart of Rochester and running steadily for 26 years is the amazing Elizabeth’s Restaurant.
Serving signature European style cuisine, founded by a Spanish couple, everything is prepared fresh on site. Also coupling carefully selected wines with their dishes, be sure to try their Devonshire Crab and Roast Pigeon Breast as a starter, followed by their authentic and delightfully tasty Chateaubriand.

Riverside Fish & Steakhouse

Riverside Fish & Steakhouse are known for their delicious seafood dishes, steaks, and burgers and are fantastically located on Town Square in an upmarket area of Bexleyheath.
They’re masters of the classic fish & chips and so, as you can imagine, their chef is brilliant at filleting and cooking great quality fish.

We recommend their famed Cod & chips, but if you’re feeling slightly more adventurous, go for their whole seabass served with baby potatoes, grilled cherry tomatoes and grilled Courgette.

The Sportsman

Serving some of the best food in a relaxed environment, this place is the true gem of this list. Probably the finest restaurant in Kent, they have held a Michelin star since 2008 and are so worthy of it. We’ve mentioned this in a previous article because it’s that good.

With so much to pick from daily on their Á la Carte menu, for now, and while it lasts, we highly recommend either their Smoked, Maple-Cured Pork Loin with Chorizo Sauce or Braised Turbot Fillet with a Mussel and Bacon Tartare. For dessert, why not try their Cream Cheese Ice Cream served with Pear Purée, Meringue and Ginger Cake Crumbs.

We told you. DE-LI-CIOUS!
