Surviving Lockdown 2.0 and The Tier System

Originally, I started off writing a blog about things to do and places to visit in Kent during the Christmas holidays but all that changed the moment the new Tier System was announced by the Prime Minister and Kent was categorised in Tier 3! Just when we thought things were about to go back to how they were pre-lockdown 2.0, instead we face the prospect of going from lockdown to lockdown.

At KH Homes we are aware that things are still uncertain at the moment, but we are doing what we can to provide clean and COVID secure serviced accommodation for the essential workers and others who must continue to work away from home. So instead of a list of things to do or places to visit in Kent during Christmas, we decided to come up with some ideas for what you could do either at home or at your serviced apartment during the lockdown.

Reading up on local history!

If you’re staying somewhere away from home, you might not know much about where you’re staying! Sure, you’re there for work, but is that the only place you know around here? It’s very interesting learning about the local history of the place that you’re staying. Especially if you’re staying in Medway, such as Rochester. Rochester is full of history, and is home to many stories, and is very closely tied with the famous author Charles Dickens. It is also a great distraction from everything else going on, so we highly encourage you to learn about the local area you’re staying in!

Watch your favourite TV shows!

This may seem a bit silly, but as we are all encouraged to stay indoors, just because you’re staying away from home doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy your favourite TV shows. All our apartments have Smart TVs, so you can access streaming services such as YouTube and Netflix without any issues. So, you don’t have to stare at your small phone screen to try and watch the latest documentary series that’s caught your attention, you can sit back on your comfortable couch and enjoy the show!

Workout from your home away from home!

Even though gyms are open under the new Tier system, not everyone will plan on going. That doesn’t mean that you can’t work out! Our apartments don’t come with treadmills or weightlifting facilities, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t do stretches, yoga, or follow easy workout from home routines that do not require any additional equipment. If you’re staying at home a lot, it can get very easy to fall into the habit of sitting or lying down all day. It's so important to move around, and our apartments may not have enough space for you to run around in, but there is more than enough space to stretch out and get some casual exercise in. If that’s not your style, you can always go for a walk or run.

Update your calendars!

This may seem a bit silly, but now is a good time to make sure that your calendars are up to date with future events. This also includes making work schedules, planning your days carefully so that you maximise your time, which also means looking into changing your sleep schedule, so it remains as normal as possible. Having a diary, or even just a vague plan of what to do during your day can help you become a lot more efficient and organised. We use Trello as a team to help us stay organised and track our various tasks, and we think that you should too!

Treat yourself to a takeaway!

I mean, why not, right? Since restaurants are mostly closed, almost everyone is at home, and it can be hard to get out to find all the ingredients to cook your favourite meals, why not treat yourself to a takeaway? Many delivery services such as Just Eat and Deliveroo are still up and running and are ready to serve all your favourite meals. You may even discover a new local favourite – and it’s also very important to support small, local businesses during this time. Be sure to download a few delivery apps and start ordering!

Get some work done!

Well, that’s why you’re staying somewhere away from home in the first place – to be able to carry out some essential work. If your job doesn’t entail you going out every day, but you need a place to work from on the days when you don’t go into the office, you could easily get some work done from your serviced apartment. Our apartments are business ready and come with the amenities necessary to ensure you can carry out your work in a quiet, safe and secure environment. The amenities available in our apartments include – free high-speed wireless internet access, a smart TV that can double as a second screen and a dedicated workspace – including a desk and chair.

There you have it, our list of things you can do from a KH Homes serviced apartment in Kent. Let us know which one you’ve tried. Whichever one you try, always remember to stay safe and follow the government guidance.
