Family Holidays in Kent

The scourge that was the COVID-19 meant we haven't been able to go on vacation for the last fifteen months. We've spent most of the past year either working from home or homeschooling the children or both! Long hours of work with barely any meaningful breaks. In 2020 we barely survived the Tier system which had most of us considering going shopping for groceries as a major occasion and the highpoint of the week! The thought of going on holiday was the stuff of dreams!!

Now that the lockdown restrictions have been eased and the prospect of being able to go on vacation is fast becoming a reality, we can actually start to plan our summer holidays. Going on holiday with the kids can create some of the best memories you’ll ever have, even if it doesn’t seem that way at the time! Part of the excitement is witnessing them get really excited about going on holiday. However, the emergence of new strains of the COVID-19 virus, in countries outside the UK, means we should consider going on a staycation instead.

If you do decide to take the family on holiday within the UK, why on visit Kent - the Garden of England? "Why Kent?" you ask? Here are just a few reasons why:

Kent boasts some fantastic beaches. Joss Bay in Broadstairs is particularly beautiful and also has a kiddies corner with a bouncy castle and trampolines for when the kids get bored of building sandcastles. It’s also an absolute must if you’re a surfer as there is a surf school with lessons on offer and the option to hire equipment so you don’t have to strap your board to the car! If you’re staying with us in one of our KH Homes serviced apartments in Maidstone, the Thanet coast is only an hour away by car.

Another great town for a staycation is Maidstone! A family trip there obviously wouldn’t be complete without visiting the iconic Leeds Castle. It’s very easy to loose track of time when you’re there, especially if you get lost in the maze. There is a large selection of birds of prey, a short boat trip across the lake and a ‘train’ that takes you from the entrance to the castle and back.

Kent Life is another fantastic place for families with younger children. Cuddle corner is a particular favourite as the kids can hold rabbits, guinea pigs and stroke chickens, which are surprisingly soft!  If the weather isn’t great there is a soft play or you can paint a pot, or indulge in a slice of cake from the café. Don’t forget to buy some animal feed on the way in so you can feed the extremely friendly goats and horses, if you’re really lucky, you may even get to feed milk out of a bottle to the baby goats!

The ideal accommodation during a family vacation is a serviced apartment - they offer the perfect holiday accommodation for families with children – you can come and go as you please, make meals when you need to, lounge around or get out and about depending on how the mood takes you. Whether you’re heading for a beach, the countryside or a farm, having your kids with you will make everything you get up to that little bit more special.
